Most everyone is familiar with the fuzzy brown fruit with the green insides, commonly known as the kiwi. The kiwi fruit is usually about three inches in length weighs about four ounces and definitely sports a unique look. But there is a lot more to the kiwi fruit than looks alone, the kiwi also offers us a lot of nutrition and delicious taste.

The green, fleshy inside of the kiwi is ridden with black seeds and has a sweet, exotic flavor. The kiwi fruit is packed full of Vitamin C, and has been growing in popularity and versatility of use. In addition to the unique appearance of the kiwi fruit, it also offers a lot in the way of vitamins and nutrients. Kiwi contains a high amount of potassium, which is a key nutrient that the body needs. It is also known for its wonderful flavor that is neither too strong nor too sweet. You will likely find the kiwi fruit fresh from November to May and most kiwi fruit is grown in California.

When shopping for the best quality kiwi fruit, you should be looking for plump fruits that are very fragrant. If you pick a kiwi that is not yet ripe, it will most likely bear a more tart taste. Kiwi is also very high in dietary fiber which our bodies need to help regulate blood sugar and in prevention of certain health conditions.

In the average kiwi fruit, you will find only 46 calories, less than one-half gram of fat, 1 gram of protein, eleven grams of carbohydrates, and 75 mg of other vitamins and 2.6 grams of dietary fiber. The kiwi fruit is also excellent to combine with other sweet fruits and berries to make fruit smoothies or shakes and offers a lot of nutrition in a fuzzy little package.
