Sprain

Sprain is a kind of injury in which joints are affected. There are connective tissues called ligament that support bones by connecting it to the muscles. When these ligaments get affected due to some accident etc causes sprain. Patient suffering from sprain will experience severe joint pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints and patient will also experience trouble in moving. The major causes of sprain can be accident, walking on improper road surface. The muscle or ligament also gets stretched by lifting heavy goods or wearing high-heel shoes, etc. Overtiredness or stress also leads to sprain. Knees, ankles, elbow, knuckles, are the worst affected parts of the body during sprain. In this article you will read various effective home remedies for the treatment of this painful sprain.

Home remedies for Sprains

Sprain is painful and it becomes worst if not treated properly and timely. Given below are some of the most common and effective home remedies for the treatment of sprain.

Almond oil:

Almond oil is effective oil for treating sprain. Take equal amount (2-3 tablespoon) of almond oil and garlic extract and mix it well. Apply this mixture over the affected area. Massage after every 3-4 hours for a week. This will show tremendous improvement. This is one of the best home remedies for sprains.

Vegetables:

Among other vegetables cabbage and onion play special role in the treatment of sprain.

Cabbage:

Take thick outer layer of cabbage and boil in water till it soften. Wrap this boiled cabbage in perforated cotton cloth and put it over the sprained muscles for 2-3 hours. This will reduce the pain.

Onion:

Onion is proved to be one of the common home remedy for treating various diseases including sprain. Cut 2-3 onions into small pieces, wrap it in a perforated cotton cloth. Put it over the sprained area for 2-3 hours. Repeat this 3-4 times a day for a week. This too will show tremendous improvement. This is one of the important home remedies for sprains.

Turme ric powder:

Turmeric is one of the best and trusted home remedy. Patient suffering from sprain should take 2-3 tablespoon of turmeric powder in a glass of milk or water. Take the powder in water in empty stomach early in the morning. One of the useful home remedies for sprains

Fruits:

Among fruits pineapple is the best remedy for treating sprain. It is also suggested that patient suffering from sprain should stay on pineapple-fruit diet until he recovers completely. Raw pineapple or pineapple extract is really one of the best remedy. The best part is that it is really good in taste, however, some people experiences itching in their mouth with pineapple. They are requested not to go for this remedy.

Apart from the above mentioned home remedies for sprains given below are some of the other helpful tips:

Patient suffering from sprain should take sufficient sleep and rest. He should avoid moving as much as possible, as this keep the sprained muscles in rest. Also applying ice bags over the sprained muscles for hours gives fast relief. Similarly, tie the sprained muscles with bandages or other medical tapes; this too will give relief from sprain. Always wear proper size and good quality of shoes and other footwear. It is always found that ill-fitted shoes are also one of the major causes of muscular sprain. Certain oils like Arnica, comfrey, etc., are really good for treating sprain. Gently massage the affected area with these oils, this will reduce the pain.

There are some exercises helpful in relief from sprain. Patient with sprain should sit on floor with both legs stretched straight. Do not bend, then move the legs towards you and then again move it away. Similarly, bend the knees such that the heel touches the floor. Then slowly release the legs and then again bend the knees. Repeat both this exercises 10-15 minutes.

Remember sprain is painful, however, at the same time it is avoidable as well. So try not to get stress or sprain. Even if it is then use any of these above mentioned effective home remedies.
