Menopause

Menopause is a time when the reproduction year of women came to an end. The onset of this phase is called peri-menopause and the post-menopause is a stage when a female does not have menstruation for the last one year. Once this phase is reached the menstrual cycle ends completely. This happens to every woman between the age of 45 to 50 years. However, some women may have menopause before this age as well. The main cause behind menopause is the lack of estrogen level in female as they grow older. The ovaries, over a period of time, stop releasing female sex hormone estrogen and thus results in menopause. The gradual lowering down of estrogen level cause lots of physical and mental changes in women. They experience emotional set back, mood swing, fluctuation in body temperature, and many other changes. Ayurveda has also mentioned about this condition. Pitta and vata dosha are being involved in the changes that causes ending of periods.

Menopause Causes

The main cause of menopause is that with the passage of time, when women attains the age of 45-50, the ovaries stop producing estrogen. Lack of estrogen causes improper body function, irritation, and severe body pain, especially backache.

Symptoms of Menopause

Normally, with the onset of menopause women start experiencing different kind of changes in their body, behavior, emotions, etc. The major symptoms of menopause are drying of vagina, the vaginal portion becomes dry and menopausal women may experience severe pain during sexual intercourse; sleeplessness, women find difficulty in sleeping during menopause; extreme hot and cold sensation, with the beginning of menopause there is extreme variation in the body temperature, some women may experience extreme low while some may find their body temperature extreme high; severe body pain, menopausal women experience severe pain in their body parts, especially head, joints, eyes, etc.; frequent urination and other problems related to bladder; skin looks lifeless, dry, wrinkles and dark circle appears below eyes. Other symptoms of menopause are irritation, mood swing, irritation, depression, easily get stressed due to family problems and responsibilities.

Home Remedies for Menopause

menopause is natural, and it will occur to every healthy and normal woman between the age of 45 and 50. The main cause of menopause is lack of the secretion of estrogen from ovary. menopause period is painful, irritating. Given below are some of the most effective home remedies based on nutritional food, herbs, and exercise and meditation.

Nutritional food

During menopause, women should take healthy and nutritional food. Minerals like calcium, magnesium become deficient during this, hence diet rich in these minerals and vitamins, especially Vitamin D, is highly recommended. Some of the calcium-rich foods are: milk and milk products cheese, beans and peas.

Take green leafy vegetables, fruits, grains, eat sprouts, milk and cheese. Freshly prepared fruit juice is highly recommended during this period. However, oily and fried food should be strictly avoided.

Water and fruit juice:

The vagina gets dried and cause pain during and after menopause is attained. Menopausal women should drink plenty of water (at least 8-10 glass) and other fluids like freshly prepared fruit juice. However, caffeine, alcohol should be avoided.

Soy

Soy foods play vital role in increasing the amount of estrogen in the body. It also regulates the cholesterol level, makes bone strong, and improves hot flashes.

Linseed or flaxseed

Linseed is an effective home remedy for menopause.

Sunflowers seed

Sunflower seed also helps in increasing the estrogen level in the body.

Beet Juices

Beet juice is very effective for menopause relief. Take a cup of beet juice, add little sugar for taste. Take this drink 2-3 times a day. Similarly, carrot juice is also a great medicine for giving fast relief from the menopausal problems. In fact, carrot seeds too can be taken as a home remedy for menopause. Take 2-3 tablespoon of carrot seeds in milk and boil. Allow it to stand, strain the mixture. Drink this milk at least 2-3 times a day. This is one of the useful home remedies for menopause.

Prime rose oil

Prime rose oil is also an effective and gives menopause relief. Take 4-5 drops of prim rose oil 2-3 times a day. One of the useful home remedies for menopause.

Other food materials that increase the estrogen level are alfalfa, garlic, beans, cabbage, beets, vegetables like beet, pumpkin, fruits like apple, papaya, etc. These foods are rich in fiber and minerals and other nutrients as well. It is also said that liquorice is a best solution of menopausal problems because it contains estrogen. Take liquorice powder 1-2 tablespoon a day. This will do wonder for menopausal women.

There are plenty of cream and ointments manufactured from natural herbs available in the market. These creams too can be used for treating the dry skin, vaginal pain, irregular body temperature, etc.

Baddam (Almond) oil

Almond oil together with geranium oil is also good for relief from menopausal pain. Mix two of these oils in equal amount and apply around vaginal portion. This soothes pain and also makes it soft. This is one of the best home remedies for menopause

Yoga and mediation:

Regular exercise, yoga, and meditation help in the treatment of almost all diseases. Mild walk, jogging, swimming is good for menopausal women. Yoga helps in controlling stress, depression, over anxiety, sleeplessness, etc.

So all you wonderful ladies who have attained menopause, please do not panic, accept it as a phase of life and try to adjust with this phase through healthy life style, balanced diet, yogas, exercises, and a happy attitude towards life.
