Facts About Movement Disorders

We think that movement of the body parts is very simple. But actually it involves a very complicated process. The brain, muscles and nervous system work in co-ordination with each other to perform various activities.

When there is some simple action to be performed a number of muscles along with the brain work together to perform the task. Before the action is done the message is send to the brain that the task is to be performed and the work is performed in accordance with the brain. People who suffer from movement disorders are unable to make the proper co-ordination of the muscles and the brain.

This is a neurological disorder which affects the fluency, quality, speed, and ease of movement. This abnormality in the speed is referred as movement disorders. The person who is suffering from this disease is unable to send the signal to the people or even if it is send it gets registered very late.

The movement is not taken place when desired. It takes place at a later stage. A lot of problems are associated with the movement. The disorder is more common among the older people though young people who are even less than 40 years of age do get affected with this disorder.

Symptoms of Movement Disorders

The person suffering from this movement disorders totally become dependent on other person as they are unable to take care of themselves. People suffering from Parkinson's disease also suffer from this movement disorders. There are various body disorders that can be associated with the movement disorder.

Some suffer from slow movement of the hands and legs along with some jerky movements. Sometimes these movements are exercised all of a sudden but they return back to normal very quickly. When people suffer from movement disorders that are associated with Parkinson's disease it is referred as the Dyskinesia. These disorders occur as a result of the drugs that are being administered to cure the Parkinson's disease.

Causes of Movement Disorders

If a person suffers from movement disorders it can be due to many reasons. The activities that the body finds difficult to perform are attaining the correct postures and twisting some particular part of the body. Various muscles are involved to perform a particular activity.

Sometimes the abnormalities become more prominent while a task is being accomplished but when the muscles are at rest all the abnormalities just tend to disappear. Some bizarre postures are made during the accomplishment of the tasks. There are muscles which control the action of the eyelids. When these muscles are not in proper co-ordination the eyes starts to blink constantly

The movement disorders are always associated with anxiety, stress, tiredness and emotion. Both these are interrelated to each other. If a person is more stressed out then the intensity of the case becomes more. Contractions of opposing muscles results in involuntary movement of the body. These are often referred as tremors.

This normal tremor more becomes more prominent if the person is emotionally stressed out or the thyroid glands have become more active. Sometimes essential tremors are caused because the essential information is not passed on to the brains. Sometimes it is wrongly detected as the Parkinson's disease. The real cause behind the tremor is still not known. These tremors somewhat are not that fatal but are capable of turning the case into a severe one.

The patients of the movement disorder sometimes suffer from restless legs syndrome. They experience a very strange sensation in their legs which gets increased due to inactivity. The person gets relief by the movement of the limbs. The patient mostly suffers from disrupted sleep and daytime fatigue. Some are of the opinion that such case arises due to the iron deficiency. One should try to relax as much as possible. This will generally help in controlling the situation.
