Mouth Ulcers

Mouth ulcer is a very common disease that people suffer from quite often. These ulcers are very painful. Little boils appear in the inner portion of the mouth and they are sometimes white in colour. The nerve of the mouth gets exposed due to the appearance of the ulcers.

The inner lining of the mouth is very sensitive and if there is any disturbances in the surface of the skin then the nerves gets exposed. During that phase it is very difficult for us to eat as well as drink as the nerves are exposed. There is a constant burning sensation in the mouth. Although they are not infectious still some people abstain from socializing during that period.

Causes For Mouth Ulcers

Mouth ulcers are sometimes caused due to the damages that are caused accidentally while brushing of teeth. Minor burns also cause ulcers. Accidentally biting the inner portion of the mouth also causes ulcers. Apart from these rough tooth and braces are also responsible for causing ulcers. The ulcers last for a week but might stay longer if more damages are caused.

Apart from the common mouth ulcer there is another ulcer known as aphthous ulcer. Their appearances are related to the mental stress of the person. They have some connection with puberty and are hereditary. They tend to last for a couple of week and disappear also after the person is free from mental stress.

These mouth ulcers tend to disappear only after the person is totally free from any type of mental stress and pressure. Sometimes these ulcers also caused due to the some bowel disturbances but when such ulcers are formed there are some other symptoms also. There are various other causes like iron and vitamin B12 deficiency which are responsible for causing mouth ulcers.

These ulcers tend to get healed on their own but if they remain for more than a week or erupt regularly then the doctor should be contacted with out fail. Food allergies ate also responsible for the eruption of mouth ulcers. Thus we see that there are various reasons for the appearance of the ulcers. Some drugs also cause mouth ulcers.

Prevention of Mouth Ulcers

The mouth ulcers can be prevented if proper dental hygiene is maintained. Proper care of the teeth and gums should be taken. The dentist should be visited regularly. Proper type of food should be eaten i.e. food which is rich in vitamin and protein should be consumed on a daily basis.

Intake of fresh fruit, wholegrain bread, iron, potatoes, green vegetables and milk should be increased. The meals should be planned in such a way that one gets to eat at least one of the above mentioned everyday. Too hot food and drinks should be avoided so that no damage is caused to the inner lining of the mouth.

Treatment For Mouth Ulcers

The mouth should be regularly rinsed with iced water to get relief from the ulcers. Washing the mouth prior to meals also helps to a larger extent. Sometimes painkillers can also be taken. People prefer for some home remedies to get rid of the common mouth ulcers.

Antibiotics are administered in case of severe mouth ulcers. But medicines should be given only on the recommendation of the doctor. In case of severe mouth ulcers sometimes local anesthesia is given. Intake of hot food and spicy food should be avoided as it might aggravate the situation. Rubbing the ulcers with hand should be avoided as it might spread the infection.

The mouth ulcers are a result of minor internal injuries. These are caused due to accidental biting of the inner portion of the mouth. Rough toothbrushes are also responsible for the development of mouth ulcers.

Sometimes they are the result of bacterial infection. Anti-bacterial mouthwash can be used to prevent the ulcer from spreading and it also gives temporary relief.
