Moldova – Where dreams come true

moldovaMoldova is a small country between Ukraine and Romania. The country is not visited by many people but the ones who have seen it say it is wonderful. There are old monasteries, dense forests, rolling hills, and very friendly people. The people will always welcome you with a smile and make you taste their exotic wine. The capital city is Chisinau. The region is mostly hilly and reminds you of the old English classic movies like ‘The Sound of Music’ which had the Alps in the background. There are lakes and rivulets flowing throughout the country.

The capital of Moldova, Chisinau is the largest city of the country and the greenest in the whole of Europe. The river Bic flows through the city and makes it more beautiful. The flora and fauna is worth seeing and you can see different species of birds and animals in parks and gardens. Some of the major attractions in the city are the Holly Gates. It is an example of architecture and history at its best. It is a square structure made of white stone with a bell weighing 6.4 tons fixed to it.

A side trip can be arranged to Serpeni foothold which is a memorial complex about 50 kms away from Chisinau. It is built in the honour of 12000 soviet soldiers who died in the liberation of the Republic of Moldova. There are meadows and green fields all around the memorial which makes it a great tourist attraction.  Serpeni is a place where tourists can enjoy local flavour by visiting the nearby farms. Tourists can learn about the culture and traditions of the local people. You can buy informatics booklets and maps here.

Another side trip which can be arranged from the city of Chisinau is to the village of Saharna. There is the famous Holy Trinity Monastery here which is a place worth visiting. True nature lovers will love it here as they will find waterfalls and pure nature here. The calm and beautiful greenery will make you come back to the place again and again. There is a high rock here called Grimidon and a small story behind it. The people of this village look at the rock every morning and say “Grimidon is in its place’ which means all is well and fine today. When visiting Europe, Moldova should be on the itinerary.
