Kusatsu Onsen – Japan

Situated in the Gunma prefecture, Kusatsu onsen gives all its credits to the immeasurable amount of water that flows into this hot spring throughout the year, easily making it the most favorite hot spring spot for the Japanese and the tourists.

One thing that this spring is well know for is the 100% pure water that flows into this onsen throughout the year. It is well known for its therapeutic effect due to its ability to destroy germs and bacteria which is seen due to its increased acidity. The water is naturally heated and also cools on its own which is another characteristic that separates this onsen from others.

History also has it that one of the most popular shogun from the Edo period of Japan bathed here and sometimes also got the water transported to their places from here.

Due to the therapeutic qualities of the water, the onsen also offers a special spa treatment called the jikan-yu where the bathing is done under the supervision of the guide. This is done to make sure you get the best therapeutic benefit from the water and relieve you from all the stress.

Another interesting attraction around here is the Ashiyu that can be seen in the town center. This is a nice place if you don’t want to completely soak up in water and just want to lie down your legs in the hot spring.

Sai no Kawara Koen is another serene place nearby that has a small creek of water flowing around, surrounded by the cheerful nature that lightens up your heart immediately.

You can also go explore the nearby forest here that has everything that a nature lover would want – beautiful creeks, narrow paths surrounded by beautiful flowers and little animals hopping around. This is the ultimate place unwind and rejuvenate your mind after a hectic day.

They also regularly conduct several events like the sports event or the sumo tournament etc. This is usually done during the time of spring though.

There are a lot of other attractions nearby like the active volcano Shirane-san, a beautiful crater lake called yuguma and the birth blace of the hot spring itself, the Yubatake which is located at the center of the town.

For all those nature loves out there, Kusatsu onsen is definitely worth a try!
