Explore the Galapagos Islands rare flora and fauna
The Galapagos Islands are situated in the Pacific Ocean and are a province of the republic of Ecuador. The capital is Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. These islands are a set of 13 large islands, 6 small islands and 107 islets and rocks. These islands have volcanic soil and there are lot of active volcanoes on some of the islands. There is a huge national park called the Galapagos National Park and also a Charles Darwin Research station which in close collaboration conserve the flora and fauna of the islands. Charles Darwin was a naturalist who had done a lot of research on the evolution of unique and rare species of plants and animals on the islands.
The Galapagos archipelago is a very unique and magnificent place to visit. People who visit the islands feel their life has changed and go back home with a new ray of life. The archipelago is a place where you will find species which are found nowhere else in the world. Being close to the equator the soil here is mostly like the dessert. The vegetation too is somewhat like what is seen in deserts. However this is what the adventurous lot of people would like to see. Kids can be taught the different kinds of terrains that exist on this planet. What kind of vegetation grows in dessert like climate can be seen.
The animal life here has the most famous giant tortoise and a number of different species of reptiles. Reptiles like the marine iguana, land iguana, lava lizards, snakes etc. sea lions and fur seals can be seen around the coasts. People who would love to live with nature should definitely pay a visit. Tropical sea birds are in abundance. Birds like boobies, cormorants, pelicans, frigate birds etc. are seen. Nature trails can be arranged for kids with a guide who will teach them and show them at the same time the various species of birds. The Galapagos Penguin is a rare species which can be seen on the Fernandina and Isabela Islands.
The Galapagos Islands have good weather throughout the year and 5 of the islands are inhabited where accommodation arrangements can be made. Other Activities like diving and snorkelling can also be done here however with kids this would be a pure nature trip. Cruises around the island take tourists to the untouched parts of the archipelago and one gets lost in the scenery.
