Bornholm is located in the eastern part of Denmark. Bornholm attracts a lot of romantic people to it as the weather and the landscapes are so pure and natural that anybody will fall in love here either with nature or with another person.
Bornholm brings out the true spirit of Denmark. There are dense forests and green pastures over hills. There are huge rocks and cliffs which give such a marvellous view of the sea that you would like to sit on one of the rocks and ask a painter to make a picture of you.
You can enjoy nature to its fullest where there is the Hammerknuden crag. There are amazing high cliffs ad rocks. The Hammerknuden crag is one enormous rock formation which rises from the sea. There is a castle ruin on the top of the cliff called Hammershus.
You can also visit the Hammerso Lake which is in the vicinity. There used to be Granite quarries in this area before. Now they have been closed down and lakes have become nature areas. The Opal Lake and Chrystal Lake are some of these lakes. You can also have a look at the Almindingen Forest which has rift valleys and moorlands.
Ertholmene is a small group of islands close to Bornholm. There are fortress buildings on this island and everything on the islands is protected. People visit the island to see rare and exotic birds. You plan a small side trip by boat. Apart from the natural beauty there are made wonders as well to visit.
The very unique Round shape Churches are something a tourist has to see. They were built during the medieval times. It is said that these were used as fortresses as well as churches. Being close to the Baltic Sea Bornholm has four such round churches. The largest of them all is Osterlars.
Bornholm is famous for its ‘smoked fish’ dish. Just saying this makes my mouth water. Fresh catch from the Baltic sea of Herring, Mackerel and Salmon can be requested for at the local restaurants.
The special dish is made in smokehouses which re still in use. A famous dish which should not be missed is ‘Sun over Gudhjem’. It is smoked herring with a raw egg yolk on it, chives and radishes. The Blue Cheese is also famous in Bornholm.
