Breast milk is high in calorie and is sufficient for the infant’s requirements. If your 1 year old is still being breastfed, then try to increase the number of times that you feed. If you can feed him every hour or two hours, even if your baby does not demand, then definitely you can find the increase in his weight easily. Remember, the best way to take care of the baby is to ensure good health and diet in mothers. Therefore, mothers need to take a well balanced diet. A calcium rich food and increased intake of fluids will help increase the milk supply.
Cereals being a good source of nutrition to babies should be offered once or twice a day. They are easily digestible and also help in the development of the baby. Try to introduce different cereals and find out in which one your baby shows interest. Do not give the same cereal daily which may make your baby bored of having the same taste. Let them enjoy the new food each day. Give a sufficient break in between if you are trying out something for the first time. This break should allow you to understand the allergic reaction towards any food.
If your baby is fussy in eating and you fail to finish one bowl of solid food, do not panic. Instead of offering that particular quantity at one time, split it into two. Frequent meals, but in smaller quantity will satisfy them as well as make the feeding effort easy. You can also consider two feeds of light snacks other than the normal breakfast, lunch and dinner in between any two meals. By this method, you can increase the calorie intake.
