Teething and Dental Care for Your Child
In most of the babies, the teething period is informed by certain signs and symptoms. These signs may be in the form of biting or chewing habit, dribbling, pulling ears, swollen gums, loose bowel, rosy cheeks, etc. It is very common for the kids to show disinterest in food and milk at the time of teething. This is naturally because of the irritability they feel while the white pearls are pushing out. But in some other cases, you may hardly notice any signs before the small teeth are seen in their mouth.
Slightly cool food or drink may help them feel better with their inflamed gums. Teething gels will be helpful and are safe if your baby is over four months of age. When the teeth are seen out, you may introduce a small tooth brush. There are a number of fancy tooth brushes available in the market which may keep your kids interested in the brushing activity. Till the age if seven it is wise to assist your child in brushing teeth. This is to ensure proper dental hygiene.
It should not be a surprise if your baby starts to bite whatever he or she gets in hand. He may even bite his siblings or anyone who is around. This is their little effort to relieve their discomforts caused by teething. Mothers may have a difficult time while breast feeding as the little teeth can be very painful to them. If the teething is complete and still your baby shows a biting habit, then it could have many other reasons too. Children bite when they are bored, frustrated, excited, etc. Sometimes, they do bite just for seeking attention.
Never feed your baby with milk and let them sleep without brushing. Make sure that you brush their teeth before they go to bed. Feeding milk while sleeping and not brushing after the feed will cause tooth decay. As the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure”, it is better to keep your child away from tooth decay than to suffer its consequences later. A regular visit to a dentist is a must to ensure proper dental health.
