Spotting during Pregnancy

spottingSpotting or the vaginal bleeding during pregnancy is much common and is found in most women usually in the first trimester. Though spotting is not necessarily an alarm to an impending miscarriage, women who experience it should not be neglecting it. The condition is to be explained to the doctor without any delay. This is only to ensure that the pregnancy is safe and far from any complication or miscarriage.

There are a number of causes for the spotting or vaginal bleeding. The light vaginal bleeding that occur around 7 -10 days after the conception is usually the implantation spotting or bleeding. This is when the egg gets implanted on the lining of uterus. The implantation bleeding may occur so early that you hardly consider it as spotting during pregnancy. In some cases, spotting may be noticed just once. But in some other, it may continue for 3-4 days.

Normally, the spotting is seen at the end of the menstruating days. Also, the spotting may also be seen at the time of ovulation. Usually, the spotting during the ovulation is regarded as the positive sign of fertility. During this time, due to the rise in the level of estrogen, the lining of the uterus may shed, which may cause the bleeding. The spotting that occurs during the middle of your cycle may be due the bursting of the egg through the follicle. All these type of bleeding which is known as spotting should not last more than a few days.

Spotting could also be found if there is any undiagnosed vaginal infection. This may not be a threatening factor to pregnancy, but should be treated as it could cause inflammation in the cervix. Such infection must not be neglected because it may later develop into some sexually transmitted disease.

If you feel that you are bleeding beyond spotting, you must immediately report to the doctor. As the miscarriages show the warning in the form of bleeding, women should make no delay in getting the necessary medication or clinical care. In some cases, a thorough rest would be recommended by the gynaecologist for a few weeks. This is to keep the pregnancy stable and safe from any impending dangers. Regular check- up from the doctor is necessary to reassure that both the mother and the baby is alright.
