Signs of Miscarriage

misscarriageEvery mother-to-be knows how dreadful a miscarriage can be even if they haven’t experienced one themselves. A miscarriage can happen for a number of reasons and it is always a good idea to know what symptoms to look out for. Most miscarriages occur during the first trimester and are known as spontaneous abortions. Mostly, the signs of a miscarriage in the initial stages go undetected and can occur even before a woman knows that she was expecting.

Miscarriages that occur in the second trimester are largely due to some other physically related illnesses that you might have or develop. These could be complications that are uterine or cervical related. Miscarriage symptoms can be standard in nature like vaginal bleeding and lower abdominal cramps. But this is no way means that you are definitely having a miscarriage. Bleeding, light or heavy can occur for several medical reasons. After a short while it may fade away and you will have a normal pregnancy. But bleeding of any sort will have to be examined.

Abdominal pain can mean an ectopic pregnancy and one that should be dealt with as soon as possible. Mild cramping is not a cause of worry. Pregnant women feel a pregnancy – in the sense that there is morning sickness, the soreness of breasts, the hunger pangs and water retention. While for some these symptoms of pregnancy fade away, for some others they remain on till the end. If you feel that you are no longer pregnant, you may want to get yourself checked. But this is not a foolproof concept.

For those in the second or third trimester, baby movements are common. However, if you find that there is no movement for a prolonged time, then get in touch with your doctor. There are certain ways to induce movement and you will be guided through these as a means of examination. Monitoring of the fetal heartbeat is also resorted to. Pre-term labor is another sign of a possible miscarriage. If you are experiencing contractions or vaginal discharges, cramps, a dull backache or mix of all of these, head straight to the emergency room for a check-up.

If you do suffer a miscarriage, do remember that it was not something that you could have helped or that happened because of you. Get all the emotional support that you will need. Keep family and friends around to help you to help you deal with the gamut of emotions that you will feel. When it comes to trying to get pregnant again, check with your doctor on the time frames that you should maintain. You will have to give yourself time to recuperate and get your body fit again.
