Is Your Baby Teething?

baby-teethingTeething is one of the major developments for your baby. When you can see a glimpse of the first tooth, you will feel so glad. Your baby will also look very cute with only one tooth, particularly when he will smile at you. But, the teething process involves certain uneasiness and discomfort for your baby. Though it is not that much serious concern, but at times your baby might get irritating during this phase.

The most common symptoms of teething are swollen gums and drooling or chewing on toys or fingers. You can also feel the strong teeth inside the gum, by pressing your finger gently on the swollen gum. Some times you baby might gain mild temperature or loose motion. Mild temperature can be related to the uneasiness feeling. As most of the time, he will love to chew; he might even gnaw some unwanted items. This might cause to loose motion. In these situations you may consult your pediatrician for medication.

You may give him some comfort by gently massaging the gums with one of your fingers. Else you may offer him safe and clean objects to chew on like teething rubber ring made of firm rubber. Even if your baby can not bite solid food this time, you may give him small pieces of fruits like apple, guava etc for chewing. Make sure to be present in front of your baby, whenever you give your baby something to eat or chew, so that you can immediately help him, if he gets choked by the small sized food particles.

Usually, your baby will feel this discomfort only for the first few teeth. As he grows older, he will get used to the uneasiness of teething. Along with the teeth development, he will also start learning the process to bite and eat. So, he will be more interested in tasting his food, rather than feeling this mild discomfort of teething.
