Help your child develop proper sleeping habits

Sleep is as important to all as is food. It relaxes the body after the daily activity that takes up energy. Sleep recharges the body preparing it for the next day. In children, the sleep plays important role as it affects the behaviour, mood, activity, appetite, etc.

It is wise to develop a good sleeping habit right from the beginning of the childhood so that you may not panic in the later stage when the kids become unmanageable at their sleeping hours. The following ideas may help the parent or the care taker to put the child in the right track of sleep.

Follow a regular bedtime and waking up time: Set a consistent time for going to bed and waking up so that you succeed in setting your child’s biological clock. This will help you to go ahead smoothly with your child in bed on right time. Do not let your child watch TV or read books beyond the decided time. Also, the parents are advised not to entertain the child at the bedtime.

Make your child’s bedtime earlier than yours: It is always good to make the children sleep early. The ideal bedtime for kids are between 7.00 pm and 8.00 pm. Children put to bed early have more time to sleep and this time is seen to be more responsive for sleeping. Never compromise with the child’s bedtime for your own reasons. This might alter their developed routine.

Encourage afternoon nap in children: Afternoon nap is good for better health of children. This will give them rest physically and mentally. A child who has had a nap in between will have a refreshed mood and will not get exhausted by the end of the day. Let the child play and sleep. This combination should be well maintained to have a cheerful kid active all throughout the day.

Allow your child to enjoy the sleeping atmosphere: Put off the bright lights when you put your child to bed. Let him sleep in calm and peaceful environment. Do not make him exposed to noise at his bedtime. Likewise, your child would feel good if the morning lights are allowed to enter his room. This will be a natural alarm to the child.

Mothers can go through the above ideas and make your child have a good night sleep.
