Diet for the Breastfeeding Mothers
Breastfeeding moms should follow certain restrictions in their diets, as long as they are nursing their babies. This restriction should be maintained due to cause, as the baby’s nourishment is completely dependent on the substance of the mother’s milk. Whatever you will eat, it will affect the substance of the breast milk and it will get transferred to the baby’s body.
If you eat good, nutritious food then your baby will receive nutritious constituent. Else if you start having junks and useless foods, then your baby will also be fed with useless materials. So, you must be very careful on what you eat, as during the first few months, your baby is completely dependent on you.
* Maintain a healthy diet, as you were following during your pregnancy days. Whole grains, cereals, vegetables and fruits must remain in your daily food chart. You should also eat protein-supplying foods like meat, fish etc. Try to have foods reach in calcium and iron, as these ingredients are essential for your baby’s growth.
* Keep your body hydrated with sufficient water. Drink plenty of fluids, otherwise you will feel thirsty while breastfeeding. It is prescribed to drink around 8 – 12 glasses of water during this time.
* You should avoid caffeinated drinks and alcohol, while you are breastfeeding. Otherwise, these substance will get into you’re the breast milk and destroy the growing pace of your baby. Even your baby might turn to become fussy or hyperactive, due to these materials.
* There is a tendency of iron deficiency for many new mothers after delivering their baby. In case you were in vitamin-supplements during the pregnancy period, you did not require checking your iron level. Either you should continue with some kind of vitamin-supplement or you should take some sort of iron supplement, if you find that the hemoglobin count is lower than normal. However, you must consult your obstetrician regarding this problem, so that he can prescribe an effective medicine for you. You should not depend on any over-the-counter medicine at least in this stage, as it might be cause of some unwanted situation.
