Diaper Rash Treatment

Diaper rashes are small pimple like afflictions that cause considerable discomfort to the baby. They appear mostly on the lower abdomen and around the genitals of your child.

A diaper rash can be brought on if an excessively damp diaper or a soiled one is left on the child to too long. They can also result from allergies to new items of clothing, residual detergents when washing of undergarments or cloth diapers if they are being used. Diaper rash often occurs for babies who have started on semi-solid food and who may be suffering from an upset stomach.

When your baby has developed a diaper rash, try and keep the area as dry as possible. Wash and pat dry your child after every bowel movement and urination. Use talc to keep the area dry right after a urination. If you are the types that shy away from the use of talc, then you could also use cornstarch to keep your baby dry.

Try not to use of your regular creams or lotions on your baby. If you are using disposable diapers, switch to cloth ones for a while. This will allow your baby’s skin to breathe and will give it the air it needs to heal. Letting your baby wander around exposed for a small part of each day is also help in allowing your baby’s skin to feel rejuvenated.

If your baby is suffering from a raging diaper rash, then get her an oatmeal bath. There are several that are easily available in the market and are formulated specially for babies. One or two baths in this can relieve a diaper rash. Just make sure that they don’t wander into some area where are accident could be troublesome. Another tip to dealing with an existing diaper rash is to run warm water on it to soothe the irritation and pain. You could also try adding some baking soda to the washing water to ease your baby’s discomfort.

However after two days, if you find the rash persists or is even spreading, then do have it checked by your doctor. Children also have a tendency of developing a yeast infection which can only be treated with antibiotics. If you find that the rashes seemed to have worsened or are interfering with your baby’s sleep then do seek medical intervention. Also ask your doctor for some cream that you can keep handy in the wake of a diaper rash.

Preventing a diaper rash will save you and your baby the agony of having to go through it.
