Rasboras’ are very lively fish and they are very good for beginners. They are tolerant towards fish. They are known to be hardy fish and do require minimum maintenance. The Rasbora family is composed of the following varieties – Two Spot Rasbora, Pygmy Rasbora, Einthoven’s Rasbora, Banka Rasbora, Red – lined Rasbora and Red – tailed Rasbora.
Housing
Rasboras are known to be strong swimmers. It is advisable to provide suitable space for swimming with bushy plants in the background. They do not nibble on live plants so you safely use live plants. However, to make it cost effective you can also fake plants. To make the rasboras feel that they are living in a natural environment, you can use Crytocaryne plants. Turn the water into slightly soft acidic water. The rasboras are tolerant of a range of aquarium conditions and the desired pH level should be 7.5 The water needs to be filtered and partial water changes are a must for the proper health of the rasboras. The optimal temperature should be around 80F.
Tankmates
The rasboras are of peaceful nature and can be kept with fishes of similar size and temperament. The desired tank mates for rasboras are tetras, moons,
white clouds, mollies, cherry barbs, et al. They are timid in nature and should not be mixed with fishes which tend to nip at the fins of other fishes.
Feeding
Rasboras accept a variety of foods including flakes and frozen foods. They also take in live foods if given. They are need to be fed at least twice a day.
Lifespan
They generally live for 2 years but there are instances when rasboras live up to 5 years.
Water Conditions
Water conditions should be at the optimum level for these fishes. You need to set up the correct water chemistry for the healthy living of these fine fishes.
