rabitRabbit as a pet is very popular all over the world. They are known social animals and are best kept in social environments. Since rabbits belong to the rodent family, they have a habit of gnawing and chewing to wear down their constantly growing teeth. The male rabbits are known as ‘bucks’, females are called ‘does’ and the young ones are called ‘kittens’ who are also the sweetest of them all. Rabbits live to a maximum age of 12 years and a maximum weight of 5.5 kg. Apart from being kept as pets, rabbits are also reared as samples for scientific labs, animal food and fur trade.

There are many breeds and sizes available today in the pet shops. They remain active during the day and are very easy to feed. There is not much difficulty involved in providing them a proper house. They, generally, do not bite and given a proper training they will release themselves in litter trays only.Rabbits are an ideal pet and can be kept both indoors and outdoors. They are territorial in nature and can scratch its owner in the initial few days.

It is advised that rabbits should not be dropped by the children. They are very cuddly but not exactly known to bounce when dropped on to the floor! So please be careful when you handle rabbits. If you are keeping a pair of rabbits, then avoid two males as they will start fighting within a short time span.A male and female can be kept together but they are known to be uncontrolled breeders. So neutering the male rabbit is a good idea. After that a male rabbit can be safely kept with a female one. For feeding, you can try various foods but only after consultation with a vet or a pet shop keeper. Unlike what is shown on televisions, rabbits actually eat more than just carrots.
