Mange in Cats

catMange in cats: There are many skin diseases that may affect your tender cute pet cat. Mange is one such skin disease that harms the cat’s good health. It is actually a particular type of cat skin allergy. This type of skin allergy is very contagious and generally transmits from one animal to others. Sometimes it may get chronic.

Causes: Those cats that are a bit extrovert and stay outdoors and roam around in the unhygienic areas are being affected by this allergy. It is generally caused by the microscopic parasites. There are different types of manges. They are as follows:

1. Demodectic Mange: This is caused by some particular mites that gradually multiply in number and affects the oil glands and hair follicles. It ultimately turns into the inflammation in the skin of the cat. It causes irritation in the cats.

2. Sarcoptic Mange: This Mange is caused by some particular mites that are generally found near the ears, belly and the genitals. This is highly contagious and it can transmit from one animal to other and even to the human beings through touch.

3. Cheyletiella Mange: You can easily detect the red colored mites that cause this mange. These mites cause dandruff like condition on the pet’s skin. The skin becomes dry and leads to flaking and scaling.

Treatment: You can easily detect the symptoms if your cat is suffering from mange. Their skins become itchy and you will find red bumps on it. The bumps may turn to raw sores that harm the good health of the pet. The cat may suffer from severe hair loss due to this skin allergy. If you detect any mite in the skin of your cat take him or her to a vet who takes test of the skin scraping to detect the mites. Actually the treatment of this disease is to kill the mites. Otherwise the parasites may spread to a great extent to make your cat sicker. Sometimes they suggest lotions and ointments, vitamin supplements to curb these symptoms in the pet.
