Give Homemade Food to your Cat

While deciding to give you cat home-cooked food, you should make sure that it has at least 60% of protein content and the rest could be used in form of vegetables and fruits. Making sure that the cat is getting the essential minerals and vitamins is also important.

While selecting grain, vegetables and meat for your cat make sure that the food does not contain chemicals, pesticides and hormones. It is completely fine to provide you cat chicken, turkey, beef and salmon. These incidents should make up 60% of the food of the cat. It is okay if you use muscle meats in conjunction with organ meats such as heart and liver. The 10% off your cats should contain vegetables and fruits. You can include peas, broccoli, carrots and other green leafy vegetables. While using grains you can opt for a white rice or brown rice. If you want to use dairy products then you can go ahead with cottage cheese or yogurt, as per your wish.

Adding supplements in your cats were home-cooked food is also a well-recognized idea. Cats essentially require nutrients like phosphorus and calcium. You can supplement these nutrients in your cat’s diet by using tablets or bone-meal powder. You can also add Coldwater fish oil or flax seed oil to your cat’s diet to ensure that it gets essential omega-3 acids.

Switching to home-cooked food from commercial food suddenly is not recommended. Introduced home-cooked food sparingly and give your cat the regular diet in reduced amount as well. Slowly the home-cooked food should take the place of all that cat feds on. This is the best way to start giving your cat home-cooked food. There are numerous recipes available over the Internet. You should take a bit time out and look for these recipes. Whenever you make one, make sure that you take all the necessary precautions. If you feel that after introduction of home-made diet, the cat is becoming weaker then you should immediately contact a vet to make sure that you cat is not on a low protein diet.
