It is believed that this breed of dog has been brought by the Viking plunderers. During the World War 1 because of the anti German feelings and ideas this breed was named as The American Eskimo dogs. There are different types of German Spitz dogs: Kleinspitz, Mittlespitz, Grossespitz, Pomeranian and Keeshond etc.

All the German Spitzs have fox like heads and dense hair on the heads. But their ears are quite small in comparison to their heads and bodies. These small ears are pointed and placed on the head. Generally this type of dogs has double coats that add to their beauty. They generally weigh between 10-18 kg. They have got a very happy disposition and they are very playful. They are very close pets of their owners and love to accompany them. Apart from that they are very active and have great power of observation. This particular quality has made them great watch dogs. They easily adapt themselves to the places.

German Shepherd: This particular breed is considered to be one of the smartest breeds of dogs. They have got extraordinary observation power, agility, adaptability and they are very obedient too. They need to be trained a bit for their aggressive natures. This breed of dogs is used in the military and police services. You need not to groom and tend them a lot. They weigh between 22-40 kg. They are very intelligent and energetic and active.
