Cat Mites: Causes, Effects And Treatment

cat-mangeA common problem with most of the cat owners is development of mites on the body of their cat. These mites are called ‘Mange’. These mites are actually parasites and they can house any where on the body of felines from ear tunnels to other parts like genital areas. What worsens a cat’s conditions is their action of scratching the body in order to get rid of the irritation that is caused by mites. Mites are communicable and can easily travel from animal’s body to the other animal. Some mites are so dangerous that they can get on to human body also. There are various kinds of mite and they differ in their functional areas.

Ear Mites are most common of all and are found especially in cats. Their names suggest that it can only grow in ear but this is only a myth. It can actually develop in other parts of the body as well. They thrive on the debris over the epidermis and ear wax. Their presence may cause inflammation inside the outer ear canal of the cat. Ear mites can be avoided by taking your pet cat for regular veterinarian examination. In case he finds presence of ear mites he may recommend you some kind of mineral oil or ear drops in order to bring your cat to relief.

Cats are also prone to burrowing mites but they are much less common than ear mites. These parasites generally attacks on the head of your cat. Their presence makes your cat’s head itchy. The parasite may adversely affect the ear base of your cat also. Burrowing mites are also a cause of hair less pets. If your pet suffers from chronic attack of the mites it can also lead to blood poisoning. In case of their attack a veterinary doctor should be contacted as the pet cat may require a dose of antibiotic to stop the parasitic growth.

If you notice the scales of the cat’s body moving away then you must realize that the cat is under the attack of parasite known as Cheyletiella. This state of parasitic attack is called walking dandruff. This is an irksome ailment caused due to the attack and it may even lead to skin abrasions.
