ArowanaArowana fishes are the first choice for aquarium and fish lovers, especially those who believe in ‘Big’. These fishes are loved so much as they are considered capable of catching negative vibrations of an intruder and alerting its owner by reacting in hyper and aggressive manner. Some of these fishes are capable of growing to as much as four feets. Historically, they come from the Jurassic age and are extremely carnivorous creatures. Their feeding habits change from time to time. For example, a young Arowana fish is usually fed with shrimps, small live fishes and worms. On the other hand, the older ones are fed with larger fishes like Koi fish.

Usually Arowana eating habits produce a lot of waste material. It is thus recommended that the bearer of the aquarium should check for presence of Ammonia, nitrate and nitrite in water at regular intervals. Changing 20% to 30% water after every 15 days is advisable. It is also important to maintain a proper pH balance of water. If the owner does not desire to do so much uphill struggle, then he can keep his Arowana in an aquarium that is supported with live water system.

It is also important to maintain proper temperature in the aquarium. This is so because; excessively high temperature can cause Arowana to age faster and also look less like Arowana. On the other hand, too cold water may kill the fish itself. A normal life span of Arowana fish is about 20 years. Arowana fishes are generally very aggressive in nature and it is best to keep them all alone in the aquarium. This fish often swims in the top part of aquarium and is also capable of jumping to a good height.
