Soup, an Elixir of Life

It is regarded as the queen of the food for various reasons. It is almost like medicine which cures sore throat, fight cough and cold, gives energy, make our bone strong and a compact drink if you are under any diet. It also acts as an excellent appetizer. Soup is the  elixir of health.

The tradition of taking soup is popular all over the world.  In China the custom of treating one’s bad health with different types of soups is prevalent from times immemorial. Seeing its goodness and healing power Jewish people calls soup, especially the chicken soup, as Jewish penicillin. In UK, in Russia and of course in United States no one can deny the popularity of soup.

The main ingredient of a soup is stock or broth. The preparation of stock and broth is very easy. The flesh, skin and bones of the animals are boiled in water in low flame and for a long time. Add some vegetables like onion, garlic or carrot to make your stock more healthy and tasty. After the stock is ready, filter it. As stocks are prepared in slow low heat and slowly, all the minerals of the bones are added in it. Gelatin is another important constituent of stock. It is easily digested and contains amino acids which improve our muscle growth and metabolic power.

Soup, whether it is clear soup or thick soup, is easily digestible and for this reason it is a favorite food item of sick people. The soup contains lots of fluid and the herbs that are used in the soup add lots of minerals in it. In all probabilities chicken soup and the tomato soup are the two most popular soups in the world. Few other favorite soups are lentil soup, pea soup, crab soup, ham soup, onion soup, garlic soup and the list is endless. Drinking a bowl of hot soup makes you warm and comfortable in winter and in summer drinking of soup makes you cool and refreshed. So apart from various qualities soup acts as regulator of your body temperature. Drink your soup and stay healthy.
