Natural Remedies for Heartburn

 

acid-refluxA person suffering frequently from heartburn may be having a gastro-esophageal reflux disease or GERD. It generally happens when the stomach acid back-flows into the esophagus leading to a burning sensation in chest area. Heartburn can also cause nausea, belching and also aggravates asthma. There are several triggers of heartburn such as dieting, smoking, stress and even pregnancy.

For treating GERD naturally, you can follow any of the subsequent steps; keep a record of everything you eat and drink. This will help you in eliminating the foods that trigger heartburn. It is advisable to eat smaller meals at frequent intervals. Do not lie down immediately after eating; go for a walk. It is good to wear loose fitting clothes and also to have a healthy weight.

In order to avoid stress, practice relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, yoga or tai-chi Drinking chamomile tea tends to soothe inflamed esophagus tissue. Avoid spicy and fatty foods and also foods high on tomatoes.

It is also advised to cut back on such foods as onions, cabbage, cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Eat chocolates and peppermint in moderation. Avoid stimulants such as coffee, alcohol and tea at bedtime. Do not take calcium supplements and Vitamin C or dairy products at night. Keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Ginger is very effective against heartburn. Take ginger juice mixed with lemon juice in water to get relief from heartburn. Chewing ginger also helps.

Papaya fruit can be had in the juice or in fruit form for heartburn. Aloe Vera is also good for heartburn and can be had before every meal. Boil some fennel seeds in water and have it in the form of tea.

Banana is also good for treating heartburn. It helps in counteracting the stomach acid.

Sleeping on your left side also helps as it moves the acid away from the esophagus entrance.
