Natural Remedies for Flatulence
Flatulence or gas is a common occurrence. It is natural for a person to pass gas 14- 25 times in a day. Many people pass normal amount of gas but are embarrassed thinking that they have a problem with gas. Gas is produced in our stomach when the food we eat is digested in our stomach and intestines. Certain foods especially the carbohydrates and beans are known to produce gas.
If you suffer from gas or want to reduce the incidence of gas, the first thing to do is to chew your food slowly. You should try to avoid gulping air while eating. It is best to avoid foods that are heavy in fats and carbohydrates as these are notorious for causing a large amount of gas.
There are other natural methods to reduce the incidence of gas are fennel, ginger powder, ginger slices, peppermint, dill oil, cardamom seeds, apple cider vinegar.
Fennel can be used in the seed form to alleviate flatulence. It can be had in the plain form or the sugar-coated fennel seeds that are easily available. Fennel can also be had in the extract or oil form. It can be taken in the capsule form also. Whenever you feel discomfort owing to gas chew on about a teaspoon of fennel to reduce the discomfort. It is safe to give these to children also, taking the precaution of giving them half of the amount of adults.
You can treat flatulence by mixing ginger powder (about half a teaspoon) in a glass of warm water along with a pinch of asafetida and rock salt each. Drink the concoction to reduce the stress from gas. Chewing on ginger slices soaked in lime juice after a meal also helps.
Brandy can also be used for relieving gas. Drinking 2 tablespoons of the brandy with a glass of warm water on a daily basis is a great help.
Dill oil (1 drop) mixed with honey (1 teaspoon) should be taken after meals to reduce incidence of flatulence.
Ground green cardamom seeds mixed with equal amount of dry ginger and powdered pepper has been used for a long time in Asian countries as a remedy for flatulence. Take care to have equal amounts of all the three ingredients.
Peppermint can be chewed to ease discomfort. Peppermint is rich in menthol which is helpful in gas discomfort.
Taking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before retiring for the night is also beneficial. It also helps in detoxifying the body.
Taking a glass of warm water with lemon juice (10 drops) is a great way to reduce flatulence.
It is advised that one should walk for at least 30 to 4 minutes in a day. This also helps in reducing flatulence.
