Narrowing Of Arteries: Home Remedies

Narrowing-ArteriesNarrowing of the arteries or Arteriosclerosis is the thickening of the walls of the arteries. It is a common ailment given the new lifestyles that the present generations follow. It results in loss of elasticity of the blood vessels and a narrowing of the smaller arteries. This results in hampering of the free circulation of the blood.

The first signs of inadequate blood supply appear in the legs and there may be a numbness and coldness of the feet with cramps and pain in the legs after even light exercise. If the coronary arteries are blocked, the patient may suffer from sharp pains characteristic of angina pectoris. When the arteries leading to the brain are involved, the blood vessel may burst causing hemorrhage in the brain. If there is a blockage with a blood clot it may lead to partial or complete paralysis and a stroke. It can also cause memory loss. When arteries leading to the kidney are blocked, it tends to lead to high blood pressure and kidney disorders.

The most important causes of arteriosclerosis are lack of exercise, to much of processed foods and a diet rich in cholesterol.

Before starting any of the remedies given, it is imperative that the patient consults a physician.

One of the best remedies for arteriosclerosis is the humble lemon peel. It is one of the richest sources of Vitamin P and helps to strengthen the artery system. The shredded peel of the lemon can be added to soups, stews or be added to the salads. Take a peel of 1 or 2 lemons and cut them up finely, put the peels in the warm water and allow standing in water for 10 to 12 hours. Take a teaspoon of this concoction every three hours or before and after a meal.

Parsley is rich in elements which help in maintaining the blood vessels, particularly the capillaries. It can be taken in the form of tea; allow few dry leaves of parsley to simmer in a cup of water for a few minutes. One can take this mixture 2 to 3 times a day.

Beet juice is excellent for arteriosclerosis. It is an excellent solvent for inorganic calcium deposits. Carrot and spinach juices are also effective in treating arteriosclerosis. The two juices can be taken either individually in quantity of 500 ml each or in combination of the two juices in the ratio of 300 ml of carrot and 200 ml of spinach juice.

Honey is another effective remedy for arteriosclerosis and is easily digested. It can be taken by adding a teaspoon to the water. Adding lemon juice makes it more beneficial. This can be had before retiring for the night.

The oil of the seeds of isabgul can also be taken to improve arteriosclerosis. One should also include garlic and onion in the daily diet for preventing arteriosclerosis.

A patient of arteriosclerosis should observe a juice fasting for five to six days. After the juice fast, the patient should go on a diet comprising of seeds, nuts, grains, fruits and vegetables. It is advised that the patient take smaller meals instead of large meals.

The foods to avoid are hydrogenated foods, animal fat and saturated fats.
