Love Handles: Exercise to Loose Them

love-handlesLove Handles; I am sure no one loves them and would love to loose them as soon as possible. The fat deposition on the lower region of the external oblique muscles is called the “love handles”. The love handles might appear worse due to the pull of the gravity. The love handles are generally detectable in the light clothes, giving rise to an impression of more fat than there actually is.

There is no short-cut to loosing the love handles. The only way to loosing them is through aerobics and proper nutrition. Aerobic exercise leads to burning the fat from all over the body and with time will lead to reduction of love handles. The love handles can be lost without the abdominal muscle workouts. Working out a specific area will not help in reducing the fat from the obliques.

The fat can be lost by doing the cardiovascular workouts, but for a more toned and firm look, it is necessary to do exercises such as side bends. Side bends exert pressure on the external obliques making them more toned. To perform side bends, stand straight with knees slightly bent and feet shoulder width apart. Bend the torso to the left by a few inches, return to the center and repeat for the right side. While doing the side bends it is important to keep the body and legs in a line of symmetry.

Performing torso twists is another exercise which can be used to lose love handles. The torso twist is useful to tone the traverse abdominis. To perform the torso twists, stand with feet shoulder width apart, twist the torso to the left, keeping the rest of the body stationary. Return to the centre and repeat for the right side of the body. Ensure that the torso remains upright during the exercise to achieve maximum benefit. Another thing to remember is not to twist to a great degree to avoid any muscle cramp.
