Pregnancy is the most crucial stage where one has to measure up the consequences of every single action before hand to make sure the developing fetus is safe. One such criteria is the food we eat. Since the food we take in is shared with the fetus too, it’s extremely important to prevent any kind of abnormalities to develop due to certain food.
Raw meat must be strictly avoided during the time of pregnancy like sushi or uncooked beef etc. Sea food of all kind must also be avoided at all cost since they contain a high amount of mercury and this is not good for the developing fetus. Another reason is that they contain polychlorinated biphenyls which is a byproduct of the industrial wastes.
Soft cheese like the camambert, blue cheese, feta and brie must be avoided too as they sometimes contain a lot of bacteria in them. The same goes for the Latin-American cheese like the Queso Blanco and Queso Fresco.
Smoking and drinking alcohol is a complete ‘no’ during pregnancy. It might be difficult but this is something you will have to endure since otherwise the fetus will be severely affected.
It would be better if you go vegetarian for a while since most of the meat products are considered to be harmful, especially the liver and poultry. They contain a large amount of vitamin A which might be too much for the growing fetus to handle.
Peanuts must also be avoided if your or your partner’s family has a history of allergies like eczema or asthma since avoiding peanuts might reduce the chances of your child developing these allergies.
Caffeine usually causes premature births and miscarriages. So try to avoid coffee and other food that contains caffeine in them.
Unpasteurized milk is another food that needs to be deleted off your diet list. This is due to the fact that the unpasteurized milk consists of the bacteria called Listeria that causes miscarriages.
Avoid any food that is made with raw egg since this again contains the Listeria bacteria, but boiled eggs are safer.
But nevertheless, it is a good idea to consult a good dietitian before planning out a suitable diet during pregnancy.
