Burning in the Chest

14 December, 2009, Diet & Health - No Comment

When a person starts to feel a burning sensation in the chest, he/she says that they have got acidity. However this may not be the case all the time. In reality there is hydrochloric acid already present in our stomach. This hydrochloric acid helps to kill the germs that come along with the food we eat. Besides killing germs this hydrochloric acid is also used to absorb iron from the food we eat. Some food products like vegetables and soya bean have a lot of iron in them however they are tightly bound together with the other elements of the substance. To set them loose and absorb them better in the blood hydrochloric acid is used by the stomach.

When the hydrochloric acid increases in our stomach and rises till the food pipe, the burning sensation starts. Like the stomach the inner layer of the food pipe are not used to the acidic environment and hence the burning. This happens in a lot of other diseases, when the hydrochloric acid rushes backward into the food pipe. This type of burning also occurs due to chillies, garlic, mustard oil and cloves. Too much of alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco and tea and coffee cause such type of burning in the chest.

Sometimes the burning in the chest can be a symptom of a heart disease as well. Not paying attention to it can cause serious consequences. People generally have an antacid medicine which does not work in such a situation. Sometimes the patient might even vomit. In such cases it is best to consult a doctor immediately. Proper care of such a patient is essential.

The burning sensation should not be neglected. It is required that the nasal canal and the wind pipe as well as the food pipe be kept clear. Sometimes due to congestion the hydrochloric acid level might rise. Maintain a diet which is devoid of spicy, sour, salty, oily food. Too much of tea, coffee and alcohol should be avoided. Carbonated drinks should be avoided as well. A person should eat little at one time; divide your meals in small and regular intervals. A person who experiences burning should have semi liquid rice and curd which is sweet. Buttermilk is best to reduce the burning sensation. Fruits which are completely ripe are good as well. Do not sleep immediately after having dinner.
