Beetroot increases stamina- the stamina-enhancement properties of beetroot should be of much interest for athletes and for people who exercise regularly. It has been found in a series of studies that people who consumed beetroot have been able to perform better in physically strenuous exercises. The reason behind this is supposed to be the nitrates present in beetroot that help in reduced intake of oxygen by cells, and hence increase stamina. The studies could have a wider impact on the use of nitrates in improving performance.

Yet another benefit of the red root is its ability to increase blood cell count. Anaemic people have been resorting to beetroot juice over the ages – beetroots are high in iron and it cures anaemia. The blood purification and enrichment properties of beetroot have a direct effect on human immune system and in protection against common diseases. Further, beetroot juice has little fat and is low in calories, while being high on fibre – this makes for improved bowel movement and relieves of constipation.

Perhaps, the most valuable property of beetroot is in its ability to treat cancer. The purple pigment in beetroot increases cell activity levels and aids in cell growth. This works against any degenerative disease like cancer or the Alzheimer’s. Beetroot brings back call activity levels to normal and could help in stalling the uncontrolled growth of cancerous cells.

In general, one neglected aspect of vegetable consumption is that of vegetable juices. Beetroot, with all its benefits, is at its best in its juice than in its cooked form.
