Bad Breath – Reasons and Remedies
Bad breath is a big problem for many people. Whatever they eat, the foul smell does not leave their mouth. Even if such people avoid pungent smelling food bad breath still keeps coming back. The main reason is in the mouth of that person. The already present bacteria cause decay of the food you eat and hence cause bad breath. These bacteria are formed from the food we eat. These bacteria reside on the back side of the tongue, which cannot be cleaned easily and hence they grow and multiply there.
When a person talks, swallows and breathes through the mouth the upper portion gets freed of bacteria however the lower portion has the bacteria and does not even get washed when drinking water. These bacteria live on food particles, dead cells and cough remaining in the mouth. These bacteria produce Indol, Sketol and Polyamines etc. which produce the foul smell. In this another element volatile sulphur is produced which produces the smell like rotten eggs. If all this has to be prevented then the tongue has to be cleaned regularly and on the lower side as well.
The upper portion of the tongue has a layer of dead cells which need to be cleaned regularly with glycerine to prevent decay and foul smell. There are salivary glands in the inside of the mouth which produce saliva. Saliva keeps the mouth and gums wet. If due to blockages in the salivary ducts, less saliva is produces then the mouth turns dry and bad breath increases. Sometimes the food pipe has food particles stuck to it which emits a bad smell and this too can be a reason for bad breath.
Sometimes when a person is sick a person gets bad breath. Sickness of the liver and kidney can be a reason for bad breath as well. A good remedy for bad breath is eating fennel seeds after eating food. They help in digestion as well as keep foul smell away. Using a good mouth freshener after eating anything can be useful as well. People who face problems of bad breath should keep a mouth freshener always with them.
