Wake up Sid Movie Review
One of the freshest movies that could have come up, Wake up Sid is simply put- amazing. The rare casting of completely different actors (in their approach) has often been controversial, and so was this one. However Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma seemed to have pulled it off rather nicely. Their chemistry looks fabulous on-screen, and somewhere, the credit should even go to the debutant director Ayan Mukerji, who has show great creativity, and rare maturity with this film.
The film does not exaggerate the happy scenes, and neither does it become completely melodramatic at any point. The usual bunch of college friends that we find in every other movie never is as impactful as in this film. The neighbours too have something fresh about them, which will make the audience love every moment of Wake up Sid.
Aisha (Konkana) comes from Calcutta to Mumbai in search of her independence and a career. She wants to realise her dream of becoming a writer and wants to experiment with life and its offerings. Sid on the other hand is completely aimless, a rich brat dependent on his father’s (Anupam Kher) money and mother’s (Supriya Pathak) pampering and doting.
Sid and Aisha meet at Sid’s college farewell party, and gradually become the best of friends. Sid helps Aisha in getting a house and helping her settle in it and the city. When he fails in his final exams, he is forced to live on the conditions laid by his father. But Sid rebels and finds shelter in Aisha’s home. Gradually, he turns from a boy to a man, and discovers a new person in himself. He gets a job, becomes responsible, and starts showing maturity.
Aisha starts taking a fresh look at life and even at Sid. Living together becomes a habit for them, till they realise that they can’t let go of this habit because they are in love with each other!
