Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs could be one of the best movies that you could make your children watch this season. A creative concept and a lot of colours and vibrant appeal of the film definitely make it an attractive pick.
The story is based on the famous children’s book, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” written by Judi and Ron Barrett. It revolves around a character named Flint Lockwood who likes to do some strange and unique creations in his makeshift laboratory. For years, he has been considered as the troublemaker in the city, but he waits for the day when he accomplishes something substantial enough to prove to everyone his skills that will enable him to gain respect.
He creates a new machine that converts water into tasty gourmet meals by just pressing a button. But things go bad when this latest machine created by him launches into the sky like a rocket. Of course, it gives the citizens of Swallow Falls one more reason to be angry with Flint, until cheeseburgers start raining from the sky. This is a boon to the hungry people below who start to believe that Flint’s machine actually works. Except that it works in a slightly different manner than it was expected to be.
Bill Hader has lent his voice to the character of Flint while Bruce Campbell has lent his voice for the character of Mayor Shelbourne, who is an ambitious politician eyeing Flint’s machine for a mission of his own.
The 3D experience in the film is simply awesome, and with each food item falling from the sky, your stomachs are sure to grumble and be tempted to grab them. It seems like the directors were clear about the kind of visual potential the script has, and also knew as to how exactly it could be brought on-screen without compromising on the fun element. Therefore, there is lot of colourful and rather tempting animation that comes across in the film brilliantly.
Only, some places in the film feel slightly weak. If one looks at these places individually, then they are good to keep you interested but don’t offer anything substantial or lasting. However, if one evaluates the whole film together, then these pieces would be best left ignored (that is only if one manages to spot them!)
Overall, it is a definite watch for kids; and for adults too in case you want to virtually satisfy the hunger growing inside your bellies!
