media as a careerIt has become vital to have a formal training and a course, if you want to pursue media as a career. Though earlier this was not the case, a degree in any disciple could assure you a place in the media world. But, now the standards have raised and the industry has become more competitive.

Once you decide you want to become a media professional, all you have to do is select an institute where you can get proper training, theoretically as well as practically. The field is considered as one of the most influential field. It began merely from newspapers and magazines, followed by radio, television, films and now digital media.

It is vast and has been divided into many fields; you also need to keep in mind, which field you want to opt for.

Television and Radio: Studying television and radio helps you with a career in television or radio production, which includes producing shows and serials for the same. It is further divided into fiction and non-fiction. Fiction is anything which follows a story based script and narrates a story. Whereas Non-fiction is reality based, it is not based on any story, and is not scripted; anything like American Idol, Moment of truth and likes will fall under the category of non-fiction. Radio, also requires production for their shows.

Once you are in the production team, you will have to do everything associated with show you are working with, which may include a lot of content and research work too.

News: A good course in journalism will get you a career in a channel, newspaper or magazines, whatever you choose for. There are certain things which are required to become a good journalist and those are good sense of news, patience, punctuality and eagerness.

Film production: One can define it as the most difficult field in media and also, the most competitive. A lot of hard work and determination is required. The work may include everything from running around the sets to assisting the director; it is very different from television production.

But, if you stay focused and give you best in whatever work is given to you that time will come soon when you will direct your own film.

Advertising: Making ad films is another option for all those young media aspirants. You can further opt for print advertising and television advertising. Being in advertising requires creativity and concentration.

Editing: The most important field, none of the above can succeed without a good editor. Be it television production or film production, advertising or news, each of these field needs an editor to edit their work and make it ready for the viewers, listeners or readers.

If you want to pursue any of the above as a career, get yourself registered with a good institute and do a course in whichever field you wish to.
