Workplace Productivity Programs: Some Basic Guidelines

workplace-productivityBoosting productivity is understandably the aim of every organization as it forms the basis for the success of the organization. Implementing some basic ideas can work wonders towards ensuring high productivity.

Time is the most valuable resource, after employees. And efficient time management can be invaluable towards boosting workplace productivity. This is the precise reason why most companies have replaced real-time meetings involving travels with virtual meetings (for example, conference calls) and cutting down on unnecessary meetings. Also, it might be a wise idea to have the telephone operator take all calls and returning the calls later (unless the calls are very urgent) at one time instead of stopping work every few minutes to attend to a call.

Also, subscribing to ‘fast-tracked’ projects process management are most likely to save precious time, enabling parts of the project to be done simultaneously, appropriately and efficiently. Also, the company needs to set definite but realistic goals with regards to the timeline for completion of each project and encourage the workers to meet the timelines. Offering rewards (tangible or intangible) for consistent adherence to timelines might serve as an efficient tool to motivate employees.

With regards to communication and other spheres of work, adopting the latest technologies generally ensures saving of time and increased productivity. However, technology should be chosen on the basis of requirement and suitability rather than piling it on.

An organized workplace hampers productivity more severely than we realize. Much valuable time is lost looking for necessary items in a cluttered desk or even in a disorganized computer or filing system. It is important to categorize and organize necessary documents etc. to ensure availability when they are needed.

A workplace that exudes a pleasant and easy environment usually ensures high productivity. Too much stress, pressure and stringent rules almost always backfire, bringing down productivity. Surveys and interviews with employees with regards to their level of satisfaction with respect to their work and workplace and seeking their suggestions for improvement and implementing the best of them not only instills a feeling of being valued in the employees but also works towards high morale, increased satisfaction, and consequently, higher productivity.

Any new productivity increase program introduced in a workplace should blend seamlessly with the existing structure of the workplace and shouldn’t be piled on just for the heck of it.
