Know this diseases

Impetigo is a bacterial infection of the skin, which usually produces blister or sore on the face and hands. This condition is mostly found in children. Impetigo is also far-familiar as an everyday skin infections; in most of the cases, it normally causes sores and blisters to come out on the skin. Impetigo is not a grievous condition in most of the cases and is treatable. Impetigo contagiosa is spread worldwide and though it occurs at any age, it is generally a disease of childhood. Patients are generally ill-fed or run down. Impetigo Infection is carried by contact with any individual carrying pyogenic organism, directly or through any apparels or cloths such as towels, handkerchiefs etc. The sites of predisposition are the exposed parts of the body, particularly the face and scalp; though it can occur at any part and its incubation period is about 2-3 days.

The causes of Impetigo

Impetigo, a common skin infection, most commonly occurs in children, especially because of the environment that is having unhealthy conditions. In adults, it might follow other skin problems. Impetigo might follow recent upper respiratory infections such as cold or other viral infections. It appears similar to as of cellulites but is more trivial, involving infections of the top layers of the skin with streptococcus, staphylococcus or mixed.

The skin generally faces many types of bacteria on it, but integral skin is an effective barrier, which keeps the bacteria to enter and grow within the body. When there is a breaking in the skin, bacteria then enter inside the body and start growing there. They then cause inflammations and infections. Breaks in the skin might occur with bites of insects, animals or even human’s, or other injuries or traumas to the skin. Impetigo might occur onto the skin where there are invisible breaks.

Impetigo’s initial features are itching, red sores that blister, ooze and finally become covered with some tightly adherent crusts. They tend to grow and spread and impetigo is communicable diseases. The infection is conveyed in the fluids that ooze from the blisters. Seldom, impetigo might form deep skin ulcers too.

The symptoms of Impetigo

Impetigo might affect skin anyplace on the body but generally it occurs around the nose and mouth and also on hands, and forearms. As already talked about, the condition is caused by two types of bacteria. Impetigo caused by Staphylococcus aureus, triggers larger fluid that containing blister that appears clear than cloudy.

Such blisters are more probably to stay intact longer on the skin without being burst. When impetigo is because of group A streptococcus, it would begin as tiny blister. Such blisters finally burst and leave small wet patch of red color on the skin that might weep fluids. However Impetigo shows different features and has differing symptoms according to their types like Impetigo contagiosa and Bullous impetigo.

The treatment of Impetigo

How impetigo is being cured depends upon the patient’s age, the type of impetigo and the degree of the infection. Though, common treatments include:

Hygienic conditions - Sometimes a doctor chooses treating minor cases of impetigo by only taking some hygienic measurements. To keep the patient’s skin clean helps mild infections to heal on their own.

Local antibiotics – A doctor might prescribe some antibiotics that one apply to the affected areas of the skin (called as topical antibiotics), such as mupirocin ointment. Topical antibiotics do not have any side effects like diarrhea that can result taking almost all oral medications, but as with other oral antibiotics, bacteria can turn resistant over the times.

Oral antibiotics – A doctor is probably to prescribe some effective and particular oral antibiotics for impetigo and severe cases of impetigo contagiosa. The specific antibiotics depend upon the severity of the infections and any allergies or conditions the patient has. However, one has to be sure completing the whole course of medications even if the patient seems to be comfortable. This would help preventing the infection from recurring and would make antibiotic resistance less likely.

Herbal or Natural therapies - Some of the holistic healers favor taking some natural herbs that have natural antibacterial and antiviral properties. Such herbs are natural disinfectant. Herbs such as Neem are considered to be effective treating skin disorders.
