What is it?

Fordyce's Condition can be defined as very common type of skin problems but simultaneously extremely dangerous also. Fordyce's Condition is a skin condition wherein the patient develops small, yellowish growth (generally on the face). Fordyce's Condition, if present, is found in almost 90 per cent of adult men. They may appear as single lesion or as symmetrical groups of even fifties!

The spots of this diseases measure about 2-5mm in diameter. Surrounding tissues are not affected by the growth of those lesions. The lesion derived its name from its discoverer, a person who first described about it in the year of 1896, John Addison Fordyce.

These lesions might cause embarrassment when they come out on the genitals, but they are harmless and are not the diseases that can be sexually transmitted. They do not have any functions in the mouth and there are no pathologic alterations that can be linked with them.

Some healthcare experts describe that Fordyce's Condition as a rare skin condition and not the disease that is caused by an overgrowth of the sebaceous glands. They do not have any symptoms and present in the majority of people. Their intermediary cells got a low nucleus-cytoplasm ratio. The papules if present from the birth become prevalent when the children arrive puberties. They may bleed if get hurt.

Causes of Fordyce’s condition

Thought the exact cause is unknown, there are some points to be kept in mind that are mentioned below

Such conditions tend to run in families i.e. they are somewhat heredity disorder.

Another possibility is viral infection; this may be another cause for Fordyce's condition.

Generic reason; the genes are infected and produce this condition.

Symptoms of Fordyce’s condition

There are tiny yellow spots inside the lips or onto the genitals or inside mouth.

The tiny dots might be in groups or in sheets.

Precautions of Fordyce’s condition

Since it is a skin disease, hygiene is considered to be the first as ‘must-follow’ factor. One must clean the skin thoroughly while bathing. One should not use any kind of chemically made cosmetic products, especially the bath or toilet bars or soaps. Instead, one should seek for natural herbal soap, especially that that is made up of Neem or Turmeric or Aloe. They all are mild and skin-friendly. They help cleansing the body areas (locally) and also remove the harmful dead cells from the skin.

One should avoid consuming excessive alcohol, spicy, oily and fermented foods. Sour tested foods like curds, buttermilk and foods like jaggery are also to be avoided. One should include fresh fruits juices and dark green leafy vegetables that not only help in digestion but they are also natural cleanser of the body.

Treatment of Fordyce’s condition

If the lesions are turning unsightly and one really feels something needed to be done, a powerful, expensive drug called as Accutane helps reversing sebaceous hyperplasia, but one might then develop new lesions after the treatment is stopped or the medication unless a patient also uses tretinoin cream on regular basis. Another famous treatment includes using TCA chemical peels that help reversing sebaceous hyperplasia, but new lesions might occur slowly after therapy.

Tretinoin Gel or Cream is another effectual treatment for curing Fordyce’s condition. Apply this on daily basis onto the affected areas. Tretinoin is be used in combination with alpha-hydroxy acid agents. Individual lesions can be removed by light cauterizes. The lesions are also removed with the help of diathermy or liquid nitrogen freezing.

How to apply Tretinoin gel and Gkycolic alpha dydroxy acid? Which one needs to apply first? Can these be applied on the lip?
Thanks
